University of Sussex

This is a bespoke contract based on NEC 3 form of contract for Balfour Beatty that comprised of the installation of 30 new student accommodation blocks, access road, footpaths, pedestrian areas, drainage and utility services, retaining walls including the design of the temporary works and hard landscaping, this was split into two phases, the first has been completed, handed over and is occupied. The second phase is in the process of hard landscaping, following the handover of the accommodation blocks.

During the contract Adenstar have been liaising with the client and their sub-contractors as well as managing our sub-contractors to ensure the works were delivered to the client’s programme.

The works are being carried out on an operational Student campus, with condensed programmes and sectional handover deadlines. These strict deadlines are not only for our client’s follow-on trades but also for the university to allow student occupation.

With the site being located on the side of a steep hill, the main access road requires a large retaining structure for support. In places this retaining structure then forms part of the concrete frame podium foundation, for some of the student accommodation blocks.
